Hi there!
My name is Thalia Powell and I am graduating this spring from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a BFA: Graphic Design, with a second emphasis in ceramics.
My knowledge of both digital design styles and traditional principles of fine art combine to inform a detailed and balanced aesthetic, and a flexible approach with attention to detail and visual cohesion. The two emphases of my education influence each other. My knowledge of tactile processes influences my design aesthetic, pulling me towards layout design and illustration. Similarly, I feel a clear translation of design principles into the way I compose and balance the elements in sculptures and paintings.
I love creating, making, and the community that comes with it. My practice as a designer and artist continues to evolve through persistent curiosity and enthusiasm for finding new ways to challenge myself. Outside of creating, I enjoy walking along the lake while talking on the phone, baking banana bread, going solo at art museums, and reading fantasy books to escape schoolwork.
